Review of Blockade Billy

By Stephen King

'Blockade Billy' by Stephen King is a short novella about William 'Blockade Billy' Blakely and his short-lived baseball career, cut to an abrupt stop after the discovery of a major scandal. 'Blockade Billy'  is told from the perspective of one of Blakely's coaches as he is interviewed by the author long after the events take place. When the team loses both of its catchers shortly before the start of the season, Blakely arrives from Iowa to fill the spot. But something about the possibly mentally unsound Blakely doesn't add up, despite his phenomenal playing ability and quickly growing reputation. This story is written from a more uncommon perspective, one that really complements the story well. One doesn't need to know much about baseball to understand the plot, and not much jargon is used. I would recommend this suspenseful, intriguing read for high school students and adults.
